I'll say in the future, that there are many ways to calculate the release of Windows and have good trip down memory lane and quite amusing to read all the different theories about how we sell to the number "7".
Anyway, we in the number used is quite simple. The very first release of Windows is Windows 1.0, the second is the Windows 2.0.
Windows 3.0 is the Windows NT code diversion as Windows 3.1. Then came the Windows 95, the code diversion as Windows 4.0.
Then, Windows 98, Windows 98 SE and Millennium, which sent each of 4.0.1998, 4/10/2222, and 4.90.3000, respectively. So we all count as 9x version 4.0.
Windows 2000 is 5.0 code, and then we shipped Windows XP as 5.1, although this is a major release we do not 'want to change the version number of application code to maximize compatibility.
Which brings us to Windows Vista, namely 6.0. So we see as we release Windows 7 next logical and significant to-7 in the family of Windows releases.
The following is a glimpse snippets about a windows 7 possible you are interested in this?
