New 80GB PS3 provides minimal power savings, might have 65nm RSX GPU 80GB new PS3 provides energy savings minimum, could have 65nm GPU RSX Last we heard, was still in the air a little 'as if next console PlayStation 3 would be home the elusive 65-nanometer RSX graphics processor. According to a curious buyer of Sony's newest 80GB unit, there is a smidgen of data that hints at a chip 65nm actually under the hood. Using the oh-so-scientific Kill-A-Watt, has discovered that his age 40GB PS3 sucked down 125.8-watt when idle, and the cool 80GB edition just eaten up 111.9-watts.

The results were similar when looking at power during DVD playback during spinning and Metal Gear Solid 4. Unfortunately, this mighty fine fellow intends to resume the new unit after being disappointed by the minimum energy savings, for which he is not likely to rip the thing open and prove once and for all what kind of GPU is there. In the meantime, we strongly recommend that someone do just that and questioning to bed.
